NEWCASTLE have paid tribute to former striker John Tudor following his death at the age of 78.
Ilkeston-born Tudor formed a formidable partnership with Malcolm Macdonald at St James’ Park during the early 1970s, collecting a runners-up medal in the 1974 FA Cup final and also winning the Anglo-Italian Cup and the Texaco Cup with the Magpies.

A statement on the club’s official website said: “Newcastle are saddened to hear of the death of popular former player John Tudor at the age of 78.
“Best known for striking up a prolific partnership with Malcolm Macdonald – and for his terrace chant, ‘Hallelujah, John Tudor’ – the Ilkeston-born forward scored 72 goals in 219 appearances for the Magpies in all competitions.
“The club’s thoughts are with John’s family and friends at this difficult time.”
Tudor, who played for Ilkeston, Coventry and Sheffield United before his arrival on Tyneside and for Stoke and Gent after his departure, eventually retired because of a knee injury.
